Dr Khan is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon who is also a biomedical engineer. Dr Khan grew up outside of Cleveland Ohio as the son of two physicians and is in fact a fourth generation physician. He grew up in a family of doctors and saw the dedication of his parents and the difference doctors can make in the lives of their patients. This inspired Dr. Khan to also pursue a medical career. 


Dr. Khan attended Western Reserve Academy in Hudson Ohio. For college he moved to the City of New York where graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. He furthered his engineering education with a Masters Degree from The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia also in Biomedical Engineering. 

Medical Career

Dr Khan then returned to Ohio for Medical School and completed a residency in Neurosurgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio. He also completed a two year fellowship in the Department of Biomedical Engineering with the goal of improving collaboration between engineers and clinical physicians to create breakthroughs in medical devices.

Following a seven year residency in Neurosurgery, Dr. Khan completed additional training as a fellow at Stanford University in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. He was also simultaneously appointed to the faculty as Clinical Instructor.

Dr. Khan then was recruited by Stanford University to join the faculty as Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery .

In 2015 Dr. Khan started California NeuroInstitute to better serve his patients. The transition now allows him to care for his patients in a more personalized and convenient setting while also providing among the best care in the region.

Dr Khan strongly believes in continuous education even when juggling a busy practice and in 2023 he completed a Masters Degree in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley.

Life Journey

Dr. Fahd Khan is married to Dr. Mehreen Khan, who is an endocrinologist. They live in the Peninsula with their two daughters . As a family they enjoy hiking, traveling, playing tennis and attending sporting events.

Dr Khan is a board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons as well as the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member major medical societies including the Congress of Neurological SurgeonsNorth American Spine SocietyNorth American Neuromodulation Society.

Locally he is involved with the San Francisco Neurological Society as well.

​Dr Khan has also held multiple leadership positions at local hospitals. At Good Samaritan Hospital, Dr Khan has been on the peer review and credentials committees as well as serving as chief of neurosurgery, vice chair and later chair of the Department of Neurosciences and a member of the Medical Executive Committee. He is currently chief of staff elect after being elected by his peers.

At El Camino Hospital, Dr Khan is a member of the peer review committee.

Dr Khan is also heavily involved in organized medicine within Santa Clara County. He has previously served as a councilor and most recently also elected as president-elect of the Santa Clara County Medical Association.

Dr. Khan gives numerous talks to physican and patient groups locally and also across California.
